LSL Senior Div 1
Verona 3-2 Glebe North
Verona recorded their second victory in a row with an exciting performance against Glebe North in the absence of some vital players. Coolmine park stood silent for a minute to honour the memory of Jason (Jakey) O'Connor who's brother Daniel (pictured) captained the side on an emotional afternoon. The home side started the brighter and pressed the Glebe defence in the early stages but neither side broke the deadlock in an evenly contested first period. The second half was an altogether different affair as it burst into life when Sean Noble skilfully lobbed the Glebe keeper from forty yards with a beautiful strike to give Verona a deserved lead. Glebe fought back and equalised with a rasping free kick which nestled in the top corner. Noble again restored the home side's advantage when he rounded the keeper to side foot into an empty net and the margin was doubled when Darragh Perdisat finished from close range to the delight of the home support. Glebe tested the nerves as they pegged their way back into the game with a glancing header but captain Daniel O'Connor marshalled his defence to ease Verona over the line for an important victory. The result see's Declan (Fabio) O'Brien begin his managerial career with a 100% record. Well done to all involved in a special victory on a very emotional day.
